Time to Schedule Spring Photography!

Although we recently had a dusting of snow, winter is rapidly coming to a close, with spring right on its heels. Many buildings and projects have been completed since fall, and it is time to get them photographed for marketing purposes. Spring can be one of the best seasons for architectural photography with colorful flowers, shrubs, and trees blooming during April and May.  Cooler spring weather means clear, crisp shots and more vibrant color - photos this time of year can be absolutely wonderful.

Landscapes
Spring exudes the sense of a new beginning, which translates into a feeling of newness and optimism in spring landscape photography. If your intent is to show color and energy - think spring. Blooming plants add an amazing splash of color, making an otherwise bland landscape something very special. In the spring lawns are greener, plants look healthier, and the landscape is more lush.

Building Exteriors

Building construction tends to finish in the fall but it can be challenging to shoot outside photos due to weather, lighting, or exterior landscaping not being complete. Spring photography gets you out of the gate fast, shooting last fall’s projects while everything is new and fresh, with easy access to the premises. It also means that your projects can be immediately utilized for marketing purposes – timely photos go a long way toward helping people visualize your project, making for an easier sell.

If your building has exterior plantings installed, but the lawn is not established, we can often deal with that via shooting angles and Photoshop to mitigate the issue and give you a lovely lush landscape.

Rain Rain Go Away and Come Again Another Day

We think of the spring months drenched in rain with summer dry and sunny, but statistics show a different picture. In the Boston area, October is the driest month with an average of 9 rainy days, while Apil is the wettest with 12. But hold on, that is a differential of only three days. Likewise, we go from 46% partly cloudy/clear days in March, April, and May to 54% in June and 59% in July. Sure, better weather in the summer, but it is only a 13 percentage point swing. My message here is don't be scared off by rain in the spring – there are a lot of lovely days to be had. I've seen people wait for summer only to be done in by a rainy June and July - then lose months of promotion.

Early or Late Spring

Landscape photography in the spring doesn't necessarily mean that it has to include blossoms and spring foliage. The great thing about spring is that you can get the best of both worlds – a colorful spring feel or a nice summer scene. In many cases, depending on the cultivars, flowers and blooms are gone, or on the way out by mid-May. At that point, the leaves are fully out, and I can give you a terrific summer look – without summer's dryness. The bottom line is if you want to shoot in the spring but want the photos to look like summer it is easily done.

Magic Hour to the Rescue

Magic hour is that time just around dusk when we turn on all the lights in your building, and you get the best of day and night. These are effective shots for the property owner – you can go from a cozy, tranquil feel to impressive and bold. The great thing about magic hour is that the foliage is in shadows, so I can get the same look in early or late spring as soon as the leaves are out - with your building architecture in full view. Magic hour is an excellent solution if you cannot landscape your property until summer but want to get going now.
